Not So Extreme Makeover: Bathroom Edition

I recently returned from a visit to the US with new motivation to finally finish decorating my apartment. I know it’s a little pathetic that I have not finished decorating yet, but it’s not as easy as you would think here, especially without my favs – West Elm and CB2. I live in a furnished apartment so it is a bit of a challenge to incorporate some of my own style. I figured the easiest place to begin is the master bathroom. While visiting in Connecticut, I picked up a few accessories from my Home Goods (wish we had one in Dubai) and got a few items from Pottery Barn – monogrammed towels and a toile shower curtain.

I managed to add a few preppy elements to my otherwise space age apartment. Hopefully the rest of the apartment will be this easy…

Jeans? Leggings? Jeggings!

More often than not I fall victim to the latest fashion trends. The latest – Jeggings! I first saw them on one of my fav shopping websites and apparently this trend is kind a big deal because even my hubby mentioned that Goldman Sachs issued a report saying they are the next big thing. So naturally, when shopping with girlfriends the other day I had to buy a pair!

I know people are wondering - why would one wear jeggings in over 110 degree heat? Well to start, it is freezing inside every store and mall here. I constantly have to dress in layers because I go back and forth between extreme heat and blasting air con. Also, people tend to show less skin here, especially in public places. I love that my jeggings are much more substantial than my leggings but more comfy than jeans! I no longer have to worry about the fabric getting saggy in the wrong places like my skinny jeans. I know I have said this before but this time I am serious – these are my new favorites!

No Strikes, Still Out

The other night we celebrated a friend’s birthday with some bowling and karaoke at a fab new place called Switch. In typical Dubai style the place was well equipped with state of the art theater style screens at the end of each alley, major light shows, and individual karaoke rooms.

A far cry from the dingy and stale beer smelling bowling alleys I am used to back west. Also, the food was pretty good! Not your typical pizza menu with unidentifiable toppings. We indulged on delicious mini sandwiches on fresh baked bread made right there at the in house bakery.

I am not going to lie… I lost… majorly… in fact; during the first round I think I had the lowest score in history… 15! So embarrassing, but I prided myself on being the team cheerleader.

Ahlan!

Welcome to my new blog! It’s been almost six months since I left my New York City studio and fast paced fashion job for my new life in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. I am excited to share some of my experiences and thoughts with family and friends. I also thought it might be helpful to show a map to see how far away I am, enjoy!
